Marble Cake - Bavaria Pan

Marble cake is still one of my favorites, both to make and to eat. This time, I used Bavaria Bundt pan from Nordic Ware and the result is very beautiful, nice and even color too.

Marble Cake Again!

We were expecting guests over the weekend, I'd like to have something baked to serve. My choices were Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies and Marble Cake. It's hard to go wrong with Marble Cake. It's easy to make and everyone loves it.

Smooth And Marble...

Tick tock, seven more days to go. I have started making phone calls, sending emails and whatever tools required to inform some business associates, doctors, etc on the change of address. I have been taping boxes and trying to pack.

I know, it's marble cake again. I should have made this when my sister and her children were visiting here last week, but somehow, every single day, we made something different that we loved. They were here for ten days and that's not enough to cover cheese scones, chocolate chip cookies and homemade tortillas, toffee and manymanymanymany more.... They need to come back again, soon!

I love the smoothness of the bottom of the cake, thanks to the generous amount of butter and flour that I put in there. Really smooth bottom.....

Me Too.....

"How many marble cake pictures do you have in your blog?" I was asked this question as I was taking pictures of another marble cake that I baked last Monday evening. I don't know exactly how many there are, at least two, but I'm not surprised if there are more. I bake marble cake quite often, I always look forward to slicing the cake and seeing the marble pattern created. Every slice always reveals different pattern and it was just silly joyful little fun to watch how it turns out.



The baking this time was more for my sister who has asked me about two weeks ago. The same sister that asked for cookies and cakes three weeks ago, the one that lives more than 900km away from here and yes, still has three other sisters within 250km radius and in the same country. Along with birthday presents for her two children who will turn 8 and 10 years this month, I packed some sliced marble cake, cookies and other goodies as well. DH took them to there yesterday morning. I received an e-mail last night from her and they were all excited about the presents and the goodies. Me too!

Marble Memory

When I was small, my mom used to make marble cake. In fact, if my memory serves me right, she only only baked marble cake and Ontbijtkoek, a Dutch Spice Cake, no other type of cake. My mom was Dutch educated, she conversed in Dutch with some of her friends, she sang some Dutch songs and she had some Dutch admirers too before she married my dad. She had many Dutch stories to tell too, many of which are no longer in my memory, I was way too young to remember.

We didn't use any electric mixer, we didn't have one back then, 3oo years ago. I remember the big glass bowl that we used and how we took turn beating the eggs and sugar. Occasionally the cake ended up being stuck badly on the pan, but we enjoyed the moment and ate with our little hands straight from the pan. It was fun, it was a wonderful memory.



I am glad that marble cake is our family favorite now. I don't use the same recipe my mom used in the past. My sort-of-pound-cake recipe is much simpler and has a better success rate and everyone likes it better. And last night, we baked another marble cake. Happy memory!

Thanks For The Present

One of the birthday presents that I received from my second daughter was a WMF Yolk Separator. It was very thoughtful of her to get me that, I couldn't even think of what I needed or wanted myself. It's a smart gift. Of course, if they ask me what I wanted, I would tell them I wanted world peace along with "having them keeping their room tidy", "washing their dishes without having to be reminded 5 times", "pushing the chair back after finish using it" and I could stop right there first. Also, I could use "Keep the house tidy at all times!".

I don't normally use a gadget to help me separate the yolks from the whites. I do have a plastic yolk separator somewhere in the kitchen, I can't be sure where it is because I never really had the need to use one. It is well kept indeed.



Anticipating the arrival of No.3, i.e. having a good strong team around the house to consume the cake, I decided to make use of the present by making the family favorite, marble cake. The version that everyone loves is the one that requires the egg whites to be beaten separately and mixed to the dough prior to putting it in the oven. The cake is gone now, but we still have the pictures. Thank you.

Always A Favorite

Suddenly, there was an urge to bake a cake that is well liked by everyone, just to make sure that the cake would be consumed before it got bad. Even at 8 PM, we got the oven running.



To minimize the baking time, I opted for wider pan instead of my usual favorite Bundt pan. I used the usual 4-egg recipe.
