Kra Pow, Singapore

We found a new place to satisfy our cravings for Thai food. It's an inexpensive place tucked inside Far East Plaza, called Kra Pow. They certainly have delicious food.

Here are some dishes we had on one visit.

Crispy Thai Wings

Massamam Curry

 Pork Fried Rice

 Spring Rolls

Drunkard Noodle Pork

Red Ruby Dessert

Sukhothai Dinner, Suisun City, California

It's our time to say goodbye to Oregon and continue our road trip to California. We left Medford and headed closer to Bay area. I never heard of Suisun City prior to arranging this trip and here we were.  By the time we arrived, it was about time for dinner. Our dinner was Thai again, of course. Might as well, after a series of Thai food everyday? Let's just continue with it.

DH's pick was a nearby place called Sukhothai. First of all, this place has a very good service. we were pleased to have dined over there. The staff gave us full attention, they regularly checked if we needed water or anything else.

It was a cold evening and DH wanted to have a cup of ginger tea. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not have such. The waiter instead brought us a few slices of ginger and two cups of hot water. How nice! It warmed my heart to experience kind gestures from strangers. Here, in the country where I live, I barely or almost never encounter such thing. We have to pay for tap water when they serve them in a glass in the restaurant.

We ordered Tom Yum Soup this time. It came in a big bowl and immediately served into individual bowls, so I did not get the chance to take pictures of it. The soup was good, but for medium in spiciness, it's practically burning. Originally, we opted for spicy but the waiter told us it was really spicy.

For starter, we picked Royal Shrimp, they were deep dried, crispy and served with sweet and sour sauce. Delicious.

And... we were back with our old time favorite Pad Thai with prawns.

We were very full by now, but we still wanted to try their dessert. We had this black sticky rice with mango and coconut sauce. We have had better version of this else where, the mango was a Philippine mango and it was rather disappointing.

Nara Dinner, Bangkok

In less than a month after visiting Bangkok, we made it back again with an extra person in the group and we went straight ahead  to Nara after dropping everything we had in the hotel. Miss K suggested Prawn Curry above. A good one indeed, it was delicious.

We had Pad Thai, of course. Pork and prawn spring rolls too. We had them before and we liked them.

We also had a fish dish, I could not remember the name of the dish, but it was good as well. Finally, dessert was sticky rice with mango. Happy tummies.

As Planned...

Busaba Eathai was the place for our first meal in London. The four of us were not really hungry so we just ordered two main entrees and a starter and shared them among us. Pad Thai was a must, I guess. We also picked another dish to try, Char-grilled Chicken with glutinous rice. Our starter was Vegetable spring rolls. As fine as expected, although I found the chicken needed a little more seasonings.

Lemongrass, Charlottesville

We did not plan to have another Thai meal in Charlottesville, but somehow, plans do change. We were nearby, having all the intention to eat at this Mediteranian restaurant. I guess, I was not too impressed and there were other factors as well that led us into having lunch across the street at Lemon Grass.

Boring and predictable, that's all I can say about our (DH!) choices. Same old, same old.  Pad Thai and Green Curry Chicken again. I ordered Thai Crispy Rolls for starter, because.... I wanted some. Miss P was drooling over  their Beef Noodles so we had them as well. Despite our typical orders, the food was enjoyable and the service was quite good.

It Could Work...

It has been a very hot Sunday here, extremely hot that I feel as if I were a melting wax... perspiring profusely...... I don't know what will be left of me at the end of the day. .....35°C but felt like 45°C.

Our kitchen has been busy again. Stimulating ideas did come after a while, I tried and tried and found something that everyone would like to eat again. These are the spring rolls that I made a few days ago and were selling really well.

Spring Rolls

The year has barely started and three weeks apparently have gone by. I am good at writing 2009 so far, no mistake has been made on the cheques that I have written. I have a niece who started internship this month, another niece that has already started being a lecturer, she's only 22. Scary! A little nephew who is down with typhoid at the moment. And Chinese New Year in five days. We still have no certain plan on D-day of whether we will be driving to Malaysia.

I am relieved to have found out that my OB Gyn knows really well how to fix my problem after I saw him yesterday. I am glad my Australian neighbor, Kaylene, introduced me to him. I still him on regular basis and whenever needed. Unfortunately, I have no idea where Kaylene is now. She and her family moved to Kuala Lumpur and then back to Sydney and I lost her since. I also lost a friend that moved back to Perth. And another one that moved to Austin, I barely heard. I lost her for a while. She changed her email address and she wrote to me only recently. I haven't heard from her again over the past couple of months.

The place that I am staying here is an expatriate place so people do come and go. That makes it hard to maintain a friendship with them. Just like maintaining long-distance relationship, it's hard. Add family and kids into the quotation and they disappear into thin air. Strangely enough, I still have friends from 20-25 years ago and they live very far away. I, however, get so messed up when it comes to childhood friends. I moved around too much that I could not remember their faces and names anymore.

I continue cooking and baking, here's the spring rolls from a few days ago, filled with bamboo shoots, carrots, minced chicken and more stuff. I like to eat them with fresh chillies. Spicy!!!

Pleasing Hungry Kids

Tuesday is a day for regular weekly cleaning mostly for my helper who comes here once a week and working for myself. It's the day when I try my very best to sort out paper work, do data input and organize work-related matters. Occasionally, I stumble upon some things that need to be solved but by accident DH put them away in the file. Tuesday is also a day when my allergy acts up, because someone does vacuuming around the house and the dust just could not resist tickling me.

We had spring rolls last week but apparently I did not make enough to satisfy everyone's appetite for them, I made probably around 14, four of which was packed for DH who was flying overseas that afternoon. My very hungry kids didn't think that I made enough. Since I had all the ingredients that I needed, I made them again yesterday, in fact this time, I doubled the recipe. My favorite mix for the filling consists of young bamboo shoots, julienned carrots, minced chicken, eggs, mushrooms and green onions with the usual chopped garlic, pepper, fish sauce and sugar to taste.

I realized by now, after everyone was content with what they ate, that I actually only need to make one batch for all of us, as we could not even finish a half of what I made today. The rest are nicely stored in the fridge or maybe freezer, for easy future use. It's still worth the effort.
