After Lots Of Rains....

The plants in the garden looked so good after so much rain we had in December and earlier on this month. Our Basil (below) and Thai Basil Plants (above and at the very bottom) were taller than ever and the Turmeric plants (third picture from the top) looked beautiful healthy.

Turmeric Roots

I am glad that I planted some Turmeric plants in the garden. They are not demanding plants and to have them around is so handy.  Some time last week, I needed some turmeric for my Soto Ayam (Indonesian Chicken Soup). I simply dug out the soil and cut out some roots. That's it.

It was a case of serendipity that I encountered this morning. It was a shady morning, it rained on and off over the past two days and while I waited for the something working in the kitchen, I decided to pull some weeds in the garden and did general cleaning there. Just a figure of speech, I must write: " Guess what I found??" Sure, the title of the post gave it all, it was a big turmeric flower by the fence.

The Tall Turmeric Plant

I don't use much of turmeric in my cooking, but by now, I have many turmeric plants in a few places in the garden and in a couple containers. The one in the picture above, the plant with the big leaves, grows in the back terrace of our place. It gets plenty of of morning sun and it's quite shady at times. I guess the balance of everything so good for its growth. The plants is tall at more than 60cm, a lot taller than other turmeric plants that I have around.

Shot this morning after light rain in the early morning. Turmeric leaves are considerably big compared to ginger's.

Turmeric

I planted this turmeric, back in mid December, without much expectation. I took a piece of root out of several in the bag that I purchased from a supermarket nearby, mainly to plant as I normally like it better using turmeric powder than grating a fresh root due to the fact that I tend to have accident with shredding... The plant has been growing well and I love the look of it. It's not a demanding plant at all.
