Chestnut Tart

Chestnut tart and chocolate ice cream were offered to us when we were flying to Tokyo the other night. I picked chestnut tart and I am glad I did. I was simply nice. I particularly enjoy the chestnut filling. Not too sweet. Just right.

Tangs Market

Tangs Market in Orchard Rd, has reopened. It's a smallish food court with cramped seating arrangement.  We haven't tried all of them but we like some like their noodles soup and siew mai. I found their $4 popiah to be uninteresting, a tad too sweet for my liking. Their lo mai kai is quite good!

Lunch At Putien

DH apparently had been wanting to try the food at this Putien restaurant in Vivocity. The two of us were seated in a small table. The table got too crowded as we had three dishes and a bowl of rice on top of a pot of tea and two cups. DH and I successfully dropped a piece of chicken each. How disappointing! The pieces we dropped were our favorite parts. The above is deep fried chicken with garlic.

The one in the claypot above is Braised Bean curd with Minced Meat Sauce. I am not sure what kind of meat it was and the picture they put on the menu was a lot more presentable than what they served on our table. It was quite delicious, despite its look.

Fried Heng Hwa Bee Hoon that we ordered, looked sad on the plate given to us. The picture on the menu was way so attractive, no surprise DH wanted to have a try. It's a good thing that in terms of taste, all of the dishes were not too bad.

We also tried their dessert . DH picked Chilled Putian Loquat in Herbal Jelly (above) and I had  Chilled Lemon Grass with Fruits (below). Nice!

Real Food, Killiney Rd

My partner in crime, Miss K, who is currently a vegetarian, until she decides otherwise, suggested this vegetarian place within the vicinity after we finished shopping last weekend.  Picturewise, they do not look attractive, but tastewise, they are better.

The above is Stuffed Portobello mushroom which both of us find tasty, ordered by Miss K. I had a slightly naughty order, a deep fried Portobello mushroom burger with Sour Rye bread.  It's delicous too (deep-fried duh!) Soy mayonaise in between the mushroom and the bread was the best part.

Almond Pastry

Making these using the frozen puff pastry just could not be easier. Brush the pastry with an egg wash then sprinkle it with coarse sugar and sliced almond. Cut the pastry into small rectangular pieces and bake them til golden brown. Done.

La Nonna Lunch

The five of us were together for the holiday, it does not happen very often recently. The last Sunday before one started school, another went back to college and one more were about to travel for business, all of us had lunch at La Nonna, again.

We had Calamari with Arrabbiata sauce and Caprese salad to begin, both of which we enjoyed.  We also had pizza to share, with the egg put on the side inside of center, to accommodate those who did not want to have egg on pizza.

DH continued with pasta trip, ordering similar dish again and again. I believe it was either crab or seafood linguine.

Miss K had gnocchi and I tried thier Pork Sausage with roasted potatoes.

Miss L had the pan fried fish above and Miss P had Chicken wrapped in Prosciutto. Lots of food for us, really!

The Year Of The Horse Is Coming

Businesses have immediately shifted their focus from Christmas to Lunar New Year. Some places started selling Chinese New Year goodies as early as Christmas day or maybe sooner. Chinatown is nicely decorated with horse shaped lanterns and many others.

Below is the decoration found at Raffles City. It's now about time to think of Reunion Dinner if you haven't! (Sigh....)

Ku De Ta, Seminyak, Bali

The day we had a car and a driver, when we were in Bali, we went out trying to sightsee and eat. Our plan was to go to Tanah Lot but it rained. So the plan changed. DH picked Ku De Ta in Seminyak for lunch. This is one of the most recommended places to go to in Bali for food. The review we read had been good.

I had their Herb Crumbed Snapper with Japanese coleslaw and what they called, rustic potatoes. Essentially they are like fish and chips. The fish was dry and tasteless and so were the chips. Quite disappointing for me. Coleslaw was forgettable. By know I really don't remember it at all.

DH had pasta, as almost always. I did not hear him complaining about his dish, so I would assume it was okay. The drink was with Lychee inside was ordinary.

It rained very heavily when we were there, even after we finished our food. The front yard was flooded (see the picture below!) and the security guard told us that the front gate of the compound was even flooded deeper because of its lower ground. We waited for a while until it is safer for the car to drive out. That's it.

Nusa Dua Beach, Day 2

Nusa Dua Beach is very beautiful. On a sunny day when the sky is clear, the beach is even lovelier. We were fortunate to have been there when the sky was blue and the sun shone. These pictures are from our second day in St. Regis Resort, Bali.
