Matcha Chia Pudding

Chia pudding is cooling and soothing and with added fruits, it becomes such a nice and healthy breakfast. It doesn't require cooking, but simply mixing liquid and the chia seeds the night before and by morning, it would be ready for consumption.

Unfortunately it can't wipe away sadness and broken hearts. Maybe someday,  someone will be able to make a pill to cure them. Dream big!

My Existence

Too many times I forget that I exist when you need something from me.

Prawn Fried Rice

Making fried rice is easy and quick, I wonder why I don't do it more often. This one was with prawn, carrot and sliced spring onions.

Life Lesson

Making mistakes is part of life and part of growing up and growing old and how we learn.  We fall, we get up and we move on.

I am in the position to take care of your welfare, the job, by default, I have.  I let you do things your way and make minor mistakes. Because you need to learn. Because you need to grow up.

I, however, have to do the best I possibly can, to prevent you from making major mistakes in your life.

You do not need to learn everything the hard way. There are better ways to live life.

Hide Yamamoto Lunch

The three of us went to Hide Yamamoto at MBS for lunch. The online review about this place seem to be favorable. DH had dined here before and obviously he liked it and he wanted us to have try their  food as well.

Miss K and I selected their $68 lunch. DH selected a couple of ala carte dishes, some of which did not have their pictures taken.

Our first course from the set lunch was Appetizer. There were three kinds, all of which were not our cup of tea, they were not anything we'd like to have.

Their sushi was so much better. They were nicely done and quite delicious. Miso soup was.... like any other miso soup, nothing spectacular and not memorable. I can't remember how it was like.

DH ordered Futomaki, there were eight pieces of them. He knew ahead of time that we would not be able to finish them and we took the rest home. Their futomaki is one of the better ones that I have had.

He also had a bowl of ramen and made me tasted the broth. I did not find it extraordinary, maybe other people like it better than I do.

Last course was our ice cream dessert. It was basically matcha ice cream. Done.  I was still craving for more food.

I don't believe it's worth the price we paid and the effort we made to go there. It's good to have tried, because now I know.

White Bread

I made an attempt to bake a white bread that has really white color. I omitted the egg, but still used butter. The result was still pillowy soft, but it was a tiny bit yellow in color, like butter.

Overnight Oats

I like overnight oats as it cut down the amount of time I need to prepare breakfast in the morning. I simply need to prepare them the night before and store it in the refrigerator. To make it healthier, I like to add some chia seeds. In the morning, I simply add fruits that I want to have. That's just it and breakfast is ready.

Sumire, Jakarta

Sumire is one of the more frequented Japanese restaurants by DH in Jakarta, often by no choice. Don't get it wrong, he is alright with the food and he wanted me to try them. I probably had been there just once or twice over the past many years. I had high expectations, but overall, I think my expectations were a tiny bit too high. The food was alright, the service was good, but I have tried better Japanese food elsewhere.

We had sushi, sashimi, tempura, kakiage and futomaki as well as miso cod.

Sapporo Ramen Miharu

It's Sunday again and it's almost over. Time goes so so fast, I can't keep up. It's so crazy that August is nearly ending and I feel like we just started 2015.

Anyway, Miharu used to be in the neighborhood and we went there a few times before.

Miharu's new location is now in Millenia Walk. We recently visited the new place for the first time and had their ramen again. I believe what I had was Miso Tonkotsu Ramen.  The taste was strong, a little bit too oily. It is one of few ramen in Singapore that I liked better. Unfortunately, I don't have the pictures of other dishes that we had, including their gyoza.

A Quote

“Suddenly this defeat.
This rain.
The blues gone gray
And the browns gone gray
And yellow
A terrible amber.
In the cold streets
Your warm body.
In whatever room
Your warm body.
Among all the people
Your absence
The people who are always
Not you.

I have been easy with trees
Too long.
Too familiar with mountains.
Joy has been a habit.
Now
Suddenly
This rain.”
― Jack Gilbert

This. Makes me sad.

Life Lesson

People are not always there to help you, that's why you have to learn to handle things yourself.

(People come to you to get help, however!)

Blueberry Scones

I started imagining having caramelized banana before I went to bed last night and I thought, since I had lots of blueberries, I should make scones as well. A lot of times, I would forget all about the plan, the next morning. My effort to write it down on my mobile phone is rather useless, because I don't really check what I have to do in the morning. I probably would be reminded if I had written it down on a piece of paper and pasted the paper in an obvious place in the kitchen. That could not happen, because I was already in bed and kitchen is a long way down and I was too sleepy to do it. Welcome to my life!

To my surprise, it all happened. I tried to make as few scones as I could, because there was practically nobody at home that would have them other than yours truly, so it's 1/4 of the recipe !! (And I still have leftovers!)

Dear X

Dear X,

I have not been contacting you, not because I don't care. I really do care. I am just afraid that you might think that I am nagging, because I always want to get a respond to my email or text. I don't nag. I hope you are doing alright wherever you are and in whatever you are doing.

Cheese Bread Sticks

Back when the kids were smaller, I used to make these bread sticks quite regularly. I recently made them again, after they were asked for.

Ristorante Takada, Singapore

There are lots of pictures here. Each of the three of us chose a three-course set menu. The restaurant gave us amuse bouche of Mushroom Cappuccino in a small cup above. They also bought bread, bruschetta and three slices of Trippa Pizza to the table. All were before we began with our selected appetizer.

Three Appetizers:

Burrito Cheese with Parma Ham and Deep Fried Hamo

Kanpachi (from Tsukiji market) in Carpaccio

My selection was Octopus grilled Zucchini, eggplant, Capsicum Caponata.

Our mains:

Tagliolini Pepperoncino Hokkaido Sea Urchin.

Spaghetti with Prawns,Baby Scallop, Cabbage, in Nori cream sauce.

My pick was Oven Baked Cod Fish with lemon and breadcrumbs.

Then, while waiting for our coffee and desserts, we got these petit fours in a generous selection. Who could resist?

Desserts:

Tiramisu of, who else, but, DH.

Beautiful looking Creme Brulle above and finally, mine was Porched Peach with Gelato.

Poached Egg Breakfast

Breakfast does not have to be difficult and outrageous. When I am in town, I rather have breakfast at home, if I could help it. This one was pan grilled homemade Ciabatta with mashed avocado with salt and pepper and a bit of lemon juice, topped with a poached egg. On the side was simple salad, so that I would not feel guilty the whole day. Healthy and filling.

Ng Ah Sio - Bakut Teh

This was a Bakut Teh restaurant that DH wanted to try so badly and we set a date to go there to have lunch over there. We came a little early, before lunch time. The place was nice, clean and pleasant. The menu was easy to read with pictures and English description. The pork rib soup was especially tender and delicious.

MTR Vegetarian Restaurant

It was our second time to MTR Vegetarian Restaurant in Serangoon Rd,. Little India. The four of us were ready to have our Indian feast. We had to order prior to getting our table. This sent us to a panic mode for a bit, because we're not familiar with Indian dishes other than so few that we already know.

We had our heart set on Masala Dosa and we ordered two of them.

We also ordered Pudi Masala Dosa (below).

Poori

Chapathi

Plain Masala.

Uma Uma Ramen Lunch

DH wanted me to try Uma Uma ramen in Forum and we finally made it there last month. I do not have the picture of the ramen that he had, but the picture below was mine. I chose Uma Uma ramen, which is their first item on the menu. Both the noodles and the broth are okay, but I don't think this will be a place that would make the way to go back again. I like other place's better and I hardly have to go to Forum.
