Unagi Don At Ten

Ten Tempura at Central is one of the places that we like to dine in. DH and I had lunch there yesterday and for a change, I had Unagi Don. DH had his usual Ten Don.  We also ordered eight pieces of Tempura Maki.  We love their Tempura Maki. We were quite happy with what we had, the dishes were reasonably tasty and reasonablly priced.

Freshly Cut

Basil leaves, cut from the plants in the garden. We used some of them for Risotto last Friday and the remainders were kept in a jar filled with water to keep them fresh for a while.

Turmeric Roots

I am glad that I planted some Turmeric plants in the garden. They are not demanding plants and to have them around is so handy.  Some time last week, I needed some turmeric for my Soto Ayam (Indonesian Chicken Soup). I simply dug out the soil and cut out some roots. That's it.

Alaska

It was around 7:30 PM en route to Narita from Dulles, we flew over Alaska. The flight attendants were nicely showed me the beautiful sights over the window. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous and my pictures just did not justify it. The snow was all over the state. Beautiful!

Red Tulip

It's about time to post something bright and pretty and Spring-like, because it is Spring season in many countries. It's a red tulip that we saw when we were walking in downtown Ann Arbor last month. So lovely!

What season is in here now? The truth is I can't quite comfortably tell, it can be so hot some days and it rains some other days... That's the way it is here.

Tofu Steak

This Tofu  Steak is one of the dishes we had about a couple of weeks ago when we ate at Shin Kushiya in Vivocity. I thought this is a dish that we could easily have at home and it is a healthy stuff to eat. The one we had was served with garlic chips and some sauce. We could easily use the ready-made Teriyaki sauce.

Lunch At Paradise Inn

We went back to Paradise Inn at 313 Somerset for lunch. Nothing fancy in mind, we just wanted some appetizing food. We had their Imperial Pork Ribs, that was very yummy but a bit large in serving although we ordered a small size.

We also had a plate of Sambal Kang Kong. It was not spicy at all for me, but flavorful!

The last dish we had was Hot Plate Tofu and it was satisfying as well. We simply could not leave without dessert, we shared a favorite of mine Sweet Taro Paste With Sweet Potato. And that's the end!

Grilled Onigiri

We had lunch at Shin Kushiya, Vivo City last Friday. I do not normally eat Onigiri, it is more Miss K's favorite and she was not around. The fact that it was Grilled Onigiri, made me want to try and I ordered one. I had one with Unagi. As exciting as it sounds, I did not find the dish to be something that I love to order again in the future. The grilled rice, of course was dry and rather a bit unpleasant to eat. Naturally, I guess. What do you expect, it's grilled rice! The Unagi was so little that the whole dish was so dominated by the rice. We learned something new again!

Sava's, Ann Arbor

About two to three weeks before our arrival in Ann Arbor, Miss L was invited to have dinner in this restaurant. Its location is in downtown Ann Arbor, right around the campus, right across from Totoro, in fact, How handy! She was thrilled to have us try the food there as well.

I love Calamari and tend to order one when I see them on the menu, especially when I have many companies. This particular one, however, was not the kind that I like, particularly the gravy that was already served on top of the fried Calamari when they came at our table.

I have to give credit to DH for choosing Pan Seared Sea Scallops,it was the best dish of the night. The dish was served over Mushroom Risotto and Spinach.

I indulged myself and my companies with this Steak and Potato Salad. After digging the salad that was served on the bowl, for a little bit, I realized that I could not find any potatoes inside. Apparently, they were forgotten. After asking, the waiter brought  them in a small plate. They were cubed and fried. Nothing impressive, but it's interesting to have potatoes instead of croutons.

Miss L was looking for Arancini that she had before, but they did not have them on the menu anymore. She ordered Pan Seared Salmon instead. The salmon was served on couscous and topped with corn salsa. The salmon was eaten, but most of the couscous was left untouched.

Miss K, who always missed her pasta, had Mac & Cheese. It was simple, straight forward and the plate was cleaned up really well. I guess, it must have been quite good.

Finally, we shared this rainbow cookies. There were three layers of Sponge Cakes inside, coated with chocolate at the top and bottom. They were served with whipped cream and milk, if my memory serves me right.

Pineberry!

I learned something new today. These are pineberries, or pineapple strawberries. I have never seen them myself, but hope to get to try them one day. Click here for more about them! They say, these taste like pineapple although they look like inside out strawberries. Interesting!

Chocolate Mousse Dessert

It was small and it looked inviting, these Chocolate Mousse in the little glass were served at Ristorante Bologna in Marina Mandarin Hotel. These desserts were part of the Buffet lunch that I picked that day. They may not be the best around but it was nice to eat little desserts and get to try others as well.

Totoro, Ann Arbor

I had the suspicion that DH had it all planned out, that we were going to have our lunch in this Japanese restaurant called Totoro. He came here before, probably more than once, some eight months ago when he came to Ann Arbor and he loves it. Parking at downtown Ann Arbor was always difficult, hence we were dropped off while he looked for a parking spot.

Naturally we were very hungry, it was 4PM. We just flew in from Dulles earlier and only landed around 2:30PM.  We had breakast so many hours ago and surely, we ordered a bunch. We had Salmon Sashimi, Avocado Salad, Tempura, Sushi and Unagi Don. I am saying this not because I was so desperate for food, but I truly found the food really good. I liked every single dish I tried. I wish there were a restaurant here that serve the food Totoro's way.

We liked the food so much that we went back again the next night for dinner. I'd love to go there again someday. What a long way to good food!

Ann Arbor's Blue Sky

We finally arrived at Detroit Metro Airport and drove to Ann Arbor. It's my first Spring Time in Michigan since 1988. Yeah, it's been that long. I always came in the Summer after I moved out of the state and I must say that this place is pretty in the Spring! I never appreciated it back then.

The sky was blue and the trees were green while the flowers were blossoming. People were on the street enjoying the weather and the sun. It's almost like Summer, but cooler and more beautiful. What a lovely time it was!
