Sanpoutei Ramen Lunch

This maybe from a couple of weeks ago or so. We were so hungry and we were in front of Sanpoutei Ramen in Shaw House. We were there once and I thought I was ready for another go. By ready, I meant that I thought, that I could finish the whole bowl. Historically I never did. I think, I also failed again this time. There were some noodles left. They were always too much of noodles and soup.

Both DH and I ordered the same type of ramen and we shared a plate of fried chicken. Of course, he refused to eat more fried chicken, he ate just a couple of them and called it "sharing". Typical.

Saying Goodbye To January 2016

Here we go again and suddenly we are at the end of January. I always want to treasure every single second of the day but I constantly let the seconds slip away. It's always the case of too many things to do and too little time. It's the case of time management and prioritizing and now the two have become my life goals at the moment.

Tomorrow will be another day, another month, a day with new hopes and new challenges and a day that I hope that makes me a better person, even if just a bit more. Just like every new day that I am given opportunity to live in. To make no issue of things that are less important, to appreciate what I have and to remember to give back.

Salmon Salad

Salad is always the right pick for a light lunch or dinner. To make it more exciting, sometimes I add something else to it, like pan seared salmon. Pan seared salmon doesn't take a long time and outrageous seasoning. I use salt and pepper and a little olive oil to brown both sides and crisp the skin. I also added garbanzo beans, walnut and pears to the salad to create a more balance overall flavor.

Chia Pudding Breakfast

Chia pudding breakfast does not take much time to prepare, mainly because it is prepared the night before. What I need to do in the morning is chopping up the fruit and topping the pudding with whatever I want. And breakfast is ready. A fresh and healthy one.

Popovers

There were just two of us at home so I halved the recipe that I used. I made six of them, smaller ones. This batch was successful, every single popover rose really well with a beautiful hollow in the center. They were light, airy and delicious.

Recipe
Popovers

Ingredients (Makes 12 popovers)
  • 1 Tsp unsalted butter, melted, plus more for greasing tin
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • grated cheese

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 450F degrees. Put the popover pan inside the oven to heat up.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour and salt. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and 1 tablespoon melted butter. Pour over flour mixture and continue whisking until just blended.
  • Remove the popover pan from the oven and brush with some butter
  • Fill the popover cups two-thirds to three-quarters full. Sprinkle some grated cheese on top
  • Transfer tin to oven, and bake for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees, and bake until well browned and crusty, about 20 minutes. Do not open the oven door while baking.
  • Remove popovers from the oven, and unmold onto a rack. Puncture the sides with a sharp knife to let steam escape, and serve immediately.

Wanton Noodles Breakfast

Once in a while, we like to try new places for some dishes that we like to eat. Miss P sent us a link to this place and we went over the weekend to have a try. This place is at Block 164, Stirling Road and it's well known for wanton noodles.

We went early to beat the crowd and to make sure that we get a slot to park easily. In some other places, eating venues are quite busy on Saturday mornings and parking places can be quite a challenge to find. It's not the case for this one. It was after 7:30 AM and we were early. There were some people enjoying the food from other stalls that were open and parking spots were plenty.

I decided to try their complete set which came with greens and braised mushroom, along with fried wantons and sliced char siu. I enjoy the flavor of the noodles, but the person that prepared the noodles seemed to have put more oil than I'd like to have. Next time, we could try to request less oil.

Salad With Scallops

Such a delicious salad. I love everything that I put there and want more. The fried egg was crispy with running yolk and the scallops were simple but tasted perfect. The salad was seasoned simply with salt, pepper and olive oil.

Steel-Cut Oat Breakfast

This is one of my favorite breakfasts, particularly with the presence of pomegranate, caramelized banana and other fruits.

Babka

I bumped into chocolate babka pictures again and again and that made me want to bake one. I baked one with chocolate and pecan with crumb topping.

Cheese Twists

I had a couple of frozen pastry in the freezer that needed to be cleared up. These cheese twists are easy to make and favorites at home.

Chocolate Chia Pudding

Here comes my wicked chocolate chia pudding that I had yesterday morning. The pudding had pomegranate seeds on the base and topped with more pomegranate, cubed mangoes and strawberries.

Putien, VivoCity Lunch

Now, there were four of us. Holiday was over for some. We wanted to go to VivoCity for some clothes shopping, but first, lunch. Putien was the chosen one and that's where we went. We tried a couple of new dishes and meatless rice noodles. We also ordered our favorite green drinks.

When Love Hurts ....

The same people that you love and care so much, sometimes are the same ones that hurt you the most. Doesn't that make you wonder if you should ever love and care? But love and care, naturally were born and you can't possibly deny the feelings. They say love should not hurt, but love does. That's confusing. How could two conflicting things be true? Maybe because both could happen. I am not an expert in this as I am just a student of life. The one that continuously learns and build up her wealth of experience. But I, have things to say and am allowed to say it. I earned this.

They say love is beautiful. When you are hurt because you love, you can no longer see it as beautiful, can't you? It hurts, it hurts and it hurts. All you can feel is pain. Life is hard, life is challenging, sometimes you don't even know how to deal with it. You continue driving, but you keep on bumping the walls. North, west, south and east. Every direction seems wrong.  You are bruised, you are exhausted. You want the pain to stop, but even as you stop, the pain lingers.

I'd say, maybe you should leave. Leave your current place completely and go to the place or places where love is there for you. You know where it is. Maybe a new group of people, people that share your interests and appreciate your achievements, where your experience is valued and admired, as you should be. A place where you are respected, because you are truly great at what you are doing. A place where you can be beaming with pride among the people that make you smile and laugh, where you can love and be loved. You deserve that and much more. Go there! Love.

Parmesan Puffs

I baked these favorites of ours, delicious little cheesy stuff that can be eaten anytime. They can be for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Or anytime you want to have them. We could have them on their own or have them with jam or whatever you want.

There's nothing much more that can be said about them. They are simply yummy.

Sin Hoi Sai Family Dinner

Like I said, this is one of the places that our family keeps on going back to from time to time. Our mission this time was to include crabs on our menu. There were six of us and we had the opportunity to have many different dishes that evening.

Back To Oats

A week into 2016, I wanted to have oats for breakfast. This was steel cut oats, cooked with milk and water, topped with blackberries, strawberries, dried figs, cubed mangoes and granola and lastly, a dollop of peanut butter, which made everything in the bowl, a lot better.......

Fat Cow - New Year Lunch

It's New Year. Just like any other day, we needed to eat. We had reservation at Fat Cow and that's where we had our first lunch out this year. All the six of us. We had various dishes and I had tomato salad as well.
