Mini Apple Tart...

Nothing fancy about these little things, I made them because I craved for them. I used ready made frozen pastry and cooked the green apples with sugar and cinnamon before putting them in. I would love some crumble on top, but I was busy packing for the trip and cleaning the house. I settle with the simple version. They are good and satisfying.

Waiting For The Flight To Arrive

We went to Changi Airport on Sunday to pick up Miss K who went to Jakarta over the weekend for her school project. The flight arrived earlier than scheduled, but time is still needed before the passengers could get out of the plane, walked through immigration and picked up their luggage.

It was around 6PM and we waited at the Coffee Shop nearest to the designated gate. We had tea with milk. I would love to have Coffee but I am keeping myself away from Coffee til Easter. Abstinence during Lent! Tea with milk is a lovely substitute.

Combination Desserts

We had a little birthday lunch yesterday. I was asked what I wanted and clearly I said, I did not want any Chinese food. Miraculously, that's where we ended up. We ate  at Taste Paradise in ION Orchard. What I featured here is the dessert that we had, a sesame seed ball, mango pure and black glutinous rice with coconut ice cream. They are small in size and just nice for the two of us who were already stuffed.

My $5 Lunch ...

Sometimes you can get a great satisfactory meal for just $5 or even less in Singapore, but it's not this time. We had to returns the books that Miss K borrowed from National library and decided to have lunch at the food court in Raffles City. Location-wise, they are nearby each other. Both DH and I got our meal from the same stall. We got different selections, but had rice and delicious looking chicken with sesame seeds (on the right side). The chicken was a turn off, as both off us practically could not find any real chicken meat inside the fried batter. We gave up after trying a few pieces that were hard and chewy. The bean curd was so-so and the vegetables was .... can't say anything nice about it.... Ahhh... bad lunch!

Birthday Cake From Afar...

Miss P turned 21 today, what a significant mile for a person. (It is almost impossible to tell people that I am 38 years now, first of all the wrinkles and grey hair don't lies and second of all, 17 years old when I gave birth????? What a bad joke! )

Anyway, since I am home alone today, I baked two tiny cakes, adapting a recipe intended to be a 4-minute microwave cake. I really baked mine using conventional oven and changed the technique so that the cake will turn out better. It did.

Now Miss P, I sing you Happy Birthday and you blow the candle gently.......

Chicken Parmesan Casserole

Chef John from Food Wishes got me started on this Chicken Parmesan Casserole. I had my own homemade Marinara Sauce and the leftover bread that I baked a couple of days earlier that was converted into garlic croutons. It was all about putting them together. Trust me, there are chicken breasts under those marinara sauce and grated cheese. Easy to make and very tasty!

Mini Cheese Croissants....

These are bite size mini croissants that I made using the ready-to-use frozen pastry. I cut the pastry into triangle, put some grated cheese and roll them into straight croissant shape. Brush the top with egg wash and baked in the oven until golden brown.

Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls are so hard to resist. They smell so good, they look so cute and inviting and I just can't blame my hands for not being able to resist the urge to pick them up and put them in my mouth. Yummm.....

Lunch At Zaffiro

DH took me to Zaffiro in Asia Square for lunch yesterday. It's a sleek and nice Italian restaurant in the business district area.  The staff were attentive and courteous.  My appetizer was Provolone Cheese with Parma Ham with a bit of salad.

For main entree, I picked Angus Beef with Potatoes. The beef was tender and tasty with a lovely presentation.  Our dessert was rum Baba Sponge Cake which was delish! Will be back to try other dishes!

Bike Park

I saw this bike park today in Asia Square building, located within the area of the car park, in the third floor. Time changes, need changes. Asia Square is a newer building in the island, I guess they try to accommodate the need of the people that come to the building.

More Waiting...

We went to the store to get these shelves, but they did not have the one that we needed. Of course we left our name and phone number to be contacted when the goods arrived which was supposed to be at the end January. At the end of January, we visited another branch and were told that the shelves would be arriving in February. Come mid February and we contacted and the tall shelves that we wanted had not arrived yet. March, they said. March indeed and we got the text informing that they were in the country. Now, we were busy and only managed to go about a week later. We placed our order and they could only deliver at the end of the month. So we are waiting now.

Lunch At Shin Kushiya

Yesterday, we had some errands to run at Harbourfront Center near Vivocity and had lunch at Shin Kushiya prior to do that.  This time we ordered something that we did not normally had. Our salad was Spinach salad with bacon bits and garlic chips with soy dressings. The dressing was salty, we only needed a tiny bit for the salad.

We also had Lobster Maki so that we could get some carbs. Both DH and I, could not really taste the lobster. It was just fine.

Shin Kushiya's specialty is Yakitori and we ordered a couple of them at first, chicken meatballs and Enoki wrapped with sliced pork. Later on, since I could use more, I ordered Asparagus wrapped in beef and Sword fish with leeks.

Three In One Yum!

We lunch at Funan today and I desperately needed something sweet after the meal. Andersen's Ice Cream was very inviting, and I decided to get three flavors. Chocolate, Raspberry sorbet and Yoghurt. I love their chocolate dipped waffle.  We are actually bad ice cream eater, we still have some left in the freezer. They are quite good, but despite having them shared among us, we could not finish.

Fish en Papillote

The name sounds so fancy, but it requires a simple process. Fish en papillote is fish wrapped in parchment paper. There are so many varieties that you can do, this one, upon sprinkling salt and paper on the fish, I put seasoned sliced onion and sliced red chili pepper as well as sliced lemon. I poured a little bit of olive oil on top, wrapped  the fish and baked them in the oven for 15 minutes on medium heat.

Up And Up...

There are many new constructions around here, it constantly amazes me that people keep on building condominiums in the area. Yes, they sell really well. This above is one of them, the building has gone up so fast  over the past months, I believe. When we moved here two years ago, it had not even begun. Looks like they are working on 18th level right now, there will be 36 floors altogether. The project is expected to be completed in 2015. Another skyscraper!

Water Pressure Test

One early morning last week, I found water on the floor of our master bathroom. After the floor was wiped dry, the water came back in again.  We started to identify that the water came from the wall behind the closet. We were unable to open the flushing unit that was installed on the wall, we just could not figure it out. The water stopped leaking the next day. After two visits from a group of four people, trying to solve the issue, they decided to perform a water pressure test on the bathroom. A few hours later, they came back and concluded that there's nothing wrong with the system. The floor is dry now, there's no more leakage and they figured it has been a temporary insanity water overflow.

Salmon & Avocado Salad

There are way too many restaurants around our place and it just does not make it any easier to pick which one to go to. Last night we went to Japanese restaurant across the river right down from our place called Nanjya Monjya. They specialize in Okonomiyaki, which we found out later after we placed our order. It's our first time there so we decided to give a try on a few their sushi. We also had the above, Salmon and Avocado Salad, with Italian dressing. We did not care so much about the dressing. We ordered some yakitori that were quite delicious as well. It's a place to go back to again. We like the food, the service was a bit messy, but the waiters were reasonably responsive to what we said.

A Wet Day...

It's a miserable wet day today. It began right before 6AM, before Miss K even woke up. It rained rather heavily when I walked her in the dark across the street to the lobby hotel to meet her school friends who were competing in a swim meet this weekend at around 6AM. It rained on and off throughout the day. I took some pictures when the rained stopped for a while. I love water drops on the leaves of Adenium. They always make good pictures...
