Il Teatro, Wynn Macau

Il Teatro is one of our favorite restaurants in Macau. We put special effort to eat here when we visit. We enjoy the view of the dancing fountain outside the window. The staff is accommodating and knowledgeable and more importantly, we love the food they serve. I tend to think that the bread they serve is the indicator of the quality of the dishes in the restaurant. Their bread selection was good, they were delicious and warm and the amount served was generous as well.

DH's favorite is Pizza Margherita and of course we ordered one to share. Our starter was Crispy Eggplant with Mozzarella and herb Ricotta Cheese, Cherry Tomato Sauce.

Miss K ordered a plate of Gnocchi al Gorgonzola. It is sweet potato gnocchi, pancetta, gorgonzola cream and roasted hazelnuts. It sounded good, looked good and tasted really good!

DH had Linguini alla Scoglio, which was Seafood pasta with marinara sauce. He loved it!! (Yes, two exclamation marks, he cleaned up the plate!)

I had Halibut del Pacifico, which is grilled halibut with crispy potato casoncelli (stuffed pasta), basil aioli and salsa verde. It was a great dish, super delicious!

It's hard to remember the name of these dishes if you do not know Italian, but the taste, we simply can't forget. They were fantastic. I wish there's a restaurant like this around here. Just one more reason to go back to Macau!

Loong Fatt Tau Sar Piah

Our family is not a big fan of Tau Sar Piah (Mung Bean Pastry), we hardly go out and buy them on purpose. In most cases, we got them from someone.  I somehow stumbled into Loong Fatt Tau Sar Piah and became interested in tasting them. Most of the reviews have been good and they seem to have different texture of fillings compared to those that we have tried before. Finally, on one fine day, DH managed to be in the neighborhood and get a dozen of them, six of the salty ones and six of the sweet ones, marked by sesame seeds on the outside if the pastry.

I must say that this Tau Sar Piah is the one that I liked best so far, especially the sweet one. I am a fan!

Don Alfonso, Macau

We went to Don Alfonso at Grand Lisboa Hotel on Randy of Grand Hyatt Hotel's recommendation. Grand Lisboa Hotel & Casino is located in the older part of the Macau. It's not far from where we stay and we took a cab to get there. The restaurant was a bit quiet when we arrived at 1:30PM. The menu offered a nice selection and each of us decided on having a 2-course meal. First of all we were served with a generous selection of bread. They were warm and lovely.

We all get our Amuse Bouche (picture above), followed by our choice of starter. I started with Crispy layers of scallops and green asparagus with sweet paprika and sea urchin sauce (below).

My main Entree was Spring chicken, fresh green peppercorn sauce, crispy purple potatoes and baby carrots and the dessert was Hot dumplings of pears, pinenuts and raisin served with buffalo ricotta sorbet and raspberry sauce.

Miss K chose Lasagna (below) as her Middle Course

Her main Entree was Striped red mullet, “Frascatelli” flavoured with lemon from “Sorrento”, wild arugula, Aglianico red wine reduction.

Her dessert was  Hot chocolate cake with banana sorbet and tangerine marmalade coulis.

DH had Tiramisu for dessert, see below.

There was a selection of complimentary petit four that we could have too, along with Coffee or Tea.

So that's the end of a long lunch. It was quite a nice experience, but we have tried a better one in Macau and we planned to head there for dinner. Another Italian cuisine for the next meal. We look forward to it.

Mermaid At City Of Dreams

We stayed at Grand Hyatt in Macau, in the complex (I hope this is the right term) called City of Dreams. There are two other hotels there namely Hard Rock Hotel and Crown Hotel. At the entrance of City of Dreams, this Vquarium has been installed. Periodically, a couple of mermaids come out and performed in front of audience that normally wait for them to turn up.

These are just projections, there are no real mermaids swimming there. Sorry to disappoint. They do look real!

Beijing Kitchen, Macau

We were not even sure if we needed dinner on our first night in Macau. We were kind of full or maybe not so hungry, were the right words. We were tired. But DH was re-charged after a short nap and one of many well known restaurants is down in the ground floor of the hotel, called Beijing Kitchen. Their Peking Duck is known to be fantastic and I just had to set aside the thought of the high number on my cholesterol level in the very recent blood test I had and enjoyed the meal. Diet would start later.  A lot later.

Just the three of us and we ordered a half of the duck. They were so good, if not the best one I had ever tasted. We all loved it.

We also ordered Beijing's popular Sweet and Sour Fish that happens to be the restaurant's signature dish and is also our favorite. The dish was also excellent.

To stay on a healthy line, we also ordered a plate of vegetable. I had no idea what it was but we cleaned up the plate well. All were good! Yummy.

A Chocolate Greeting

We took a short break from our Singapore life. We flew to Hong Kong and took a ferry ride to Macau. Upon arrival at our room in Macau, a nice little surprise was waiting for us. A small but intense super yummy chocolate cake, congratulating us on our anniversary was already on the Coffee Table. The hotel also provided us a fruit platter and a bottle of wine too. What a nice way to begin our vacation, after such a long day trip! Yum and horray!

Bel Mondo

It was a little challenge for DH and me, to find a place for a good lunch on Sunday. Many places that we would like to go to, only served buffet for Sunday brunch or lunch. We just wanted one simple, but nice and delicious dish to enjoy, a little celebration for our 23rd anniversary. We could opt for the dinner, but both of us tried to avoid having big meals in the evening, besides we also had mass to attend. After going through many places, we chose a new place that we had never been at Millenia Walk, a place that serves southern Italian cuisine. We sure loved to try. Our other options were Japanese food.

The place was very quiet, we were not impressed with the bread they served above. They looked like fried fish balls and we simply did not like the taste.  I thought for a while that the food would not be something that we like too, but it turned out that I was wrong. DH's had Spicy Chicken Steak ($24 before tax and service charge) (the first picture above) and it was quite delish. There was no explanation on what seasonings they used, the menu said it was marinated with their homemade marinade.

I ordered one of their specials of the day, Oven Baked Cod Fish with fresh herbs and white wine in lemon cream sauce. I particularly loved the sauce. It was creamy and yummy. The dish was priced at $50, before tax and service charge.  We were pleased with the food but I doubt if we want to go back there. The location, ambiance and the choices of the dishes there are not too exciting. But, who knows? We just might.

Air Fried Chicken Wings

I love simple recipes like these Air Fried Chicken Wings. I made use of my Airfryer. After washing the wings, I dried them with a towel and seasoned them with salt and Chinese Five Spice Powder. Put them in the pre-heated Airfryer. They are ready to eat when they turn golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.

Apple Pastry

I just wanted to use the frozen pastry that I had in the freezer for a long time. It's cleaning time. Time to use what I had too long or to throw them away. In the spirit of simplicity, I used the the recipe that they have on the wrapper, it was a simple recipe that uses the pastry itself, some apples, sugar to sprinkle on top and one egg to brush the sides. In no time, we had a good-looking, rather delicious apple pastry.

Torikurozu

We had lunch at Ootoya, Orchard Central this afternoon. We dined at Ootoya in Sapporo, Japan a couple of times before and we had quite a good experience. The restaurant has been opened for a while here, but this was our first time there. It was past 1PM and it was reasonably quiet there. The prices are higher than in Japan, as expected, and the standard is quite similar.

Our lunch today was Chinese. We ate at a restaurant in the basement of Raffles City. We had this yummy Roast Pork too.

Apple Blueberry Crumb Pie

I prepared the filling of the pie a few days ago, just small amount. I stored it in the fridge as I had no definite plan when I was going to use it. Then I prepared pie crust that I was not sure of to make into. I decided to use some of the pastry for  two mini apple pies. As the apple filling that has been prepared was a tad too little, I added some blueberries and sprinkled a little bit of crumbs on top. Turned out great!
