Senshu, Fairmont Jakarta

We had omakase with a couple of friends when we were in Jakarta earlier this month. It was basically straight to the restaurant upon landing as traffic was bad. The traffic is always bad in Jakarta. Whatever I planned to do in between arrival and lunch had to be cancelled, even my subsequent appointment had to be rescheduled. Distances are short but it always takes so much longer to reach places. That's Jakarta since as long as I can remember. 

I put here some of the good pictures that I have taken, the last one being the dessert. The dessert was french toast that was way too rich and too sweet and a tad too big, especially after we had a bowl of too rich fried rice, that was topped with curry gravy. It's all too much for me. 

French Toast

When we have a big loaf of bread and we don't have enough people to eat it, we have leftover. I always like to use the leftover bread for making French toast for breakfast that I truly enjoy.

I baked a loaf of Hokkaido milk bread and had a bit of leftover and used a thick slice to make my breakfast. These French toast were drizzled with Wildflower honey and served with kiwi, raspberries and mango with blueberries scattered around the top.

It's breakfast time earlier this month and I made French toast and topped them with sliced green apples that were pan fried and then sprinkled with homemade caramel sauce. That's it. It's breakfast.

We finally had a brunch in this place, a place that quite often, we saw to have a long line of people waiting for the table as if there were a special event inside. Apparently Comman Man is very popular, especially for its Eggs Benedict (above and the very bottom pictures).  We ordered a couple plates of them. The eggs were served with braised ox cheeks and Hollandaise sauce on a piece of sourdough bread. Delicious. $24 before tax and service charge. Not quite a common price!

The brioche French toast above was presented with berries and vanilla ice cream. It was really mouth-watering too. Priced at $18 before the extra charges. Yummy dishes, but a little pricey!

More Breakfast ....

Our London flight's departure time was approximately at 9AM. We were served with breakfast on the plane not long after we took off. It was the beginning of the trip, I was still fresh, a bit full from the breakfast I had at the lounge at the airport, but was excited to see what they offered. Everybody got a plate of fresh sliced fruit and they were indeed fresh and good.  There were three options for the main in their business class, namely dim sum, scrambled egg with sausage, mushroom and potatoes with bacon and the one that I picked was raisin French toast.

For any meals we get, Singapore Airlines always provide plenty of  cutlery.

Wholemeal French Toast

I need some sort of visual aid to get me to cook something sometimes. Martha Stewart has been the one behind last Sunday's breakfast. I use the leftover wholemeal bread that we had. Along with a couple slices of bacon and a cup of coffee, I got my very busy day started yesterday.
