Crystal Jade Dining In, Lunch

We recently had a dim sum lunch, back at Crystal Jade Dining In in Vivo City. We tried a new dish above, its prawn roll with mango, recommended by a nice lady sitting next to our table. Many tables seemed to order this dish too, so we figure we needed to give it a try. Yes, we confirmed it's not for us. :( Did not work well with our tastebuds.

We also had our favorite Char Siew Bao, they were always good. Being festive, I agreed to order a plate of meat consisting of roast chicken, roast pork and barbecue pork. All were good. We had Xiao Long Bao too and a basket of sweet dim sum that I had my eyes on since we arrived. They were salted egg yolk custard buns. I love the color, I love the texture and I love the taste. The best came last.

Popover Breakfast

I like to make my popovers with cheese on top and have them for breakfast. With fruit as well. It takes a little time to bake popovers, but these babies and fruit make a yummy breakfast combination. Have a cup of coffee or tea on the side, it's more enjoyable.

Common Man Coffee Roasters Breakfast

This is my 1750th posting, what a number! I never thought I would have reached these many posts.

Miss K was the last one to go back to college over the Christmas holiday last year. It was January, just days before her departure and she wanted to revisit Common Man Roasters for breakfast. It had been a while for all of us. The place is very popular, long lines can be seen during peak hours and over the weekends and I never like being in the crowds or eating in the crowded place.  We went on a weekday just before 9 o'clock in the morning. It was rather quiet and just nice for us.

My pick for the breakfast was Turkish Common Man breakfast. The soft boiled egg in the center was wrapped in phyllo and was delicious. On the plate, there were two crispy feta balls, salad and pita bread. It was filling and satisfying both in terms of quantity and taste. I was quite pleased that there were some veggies on the plate.

I also ordered a cup of hot mocha and it came looking so pretty that everyone wanted to take some pictures of it. Three people took turn to take picture of this beautiful baby.

DH had his eyes on Croissant Croque Monsieur. Croissant with provolone cheese, ham and bechamel sauce. It's a good breakfast size and he seemed to like it.

Miss K was dying for French toast. They served them with berries compote and ice cream. How nice is that, ice cream for breakfast?

Waffle Breakfast

Breakfast was homemade wholemeal waffles. They are not hard to make and I was able to eat them with whatever I want, in this case, I had them with berries and my favorite Greek honey.

Up And Above, Okra Bangkok

I completely was in love with the vast and delicious selection at this restaurant. We were here at the end of last year. Waking up to have this wonderful breakfast was something that I was looking forward to. I love their juices, I love their coconut even more. I could choose my how my eggs cooked and there's more than enough than my tummy was happy with. What a nice break from having to prepare my own food at home and clean up after. It's not all perfect but definitely fantastic.

Onion Tart

It's an easy caramelized red onion tart that we like to make in galette form. The red onion was caramelized with the help from brown sugar and some balsamic vinegar. We also sprinkled some feta cheese and thyme on top before we put the tart in the preheated oven. Miss K and I made this back last month before she went back to Berkeley.

Chatuchak Market, Bangkok

Chatuchak is a very popular market in Bangkok. It is the largest in the city and one of the largest in the world. Its website says that the market is divided into 27 sections and there are more than 15,000 booths selling all sort of products from various parts of Thailand.

We spent a good couple of hours over there and visited only a small part of the market. After getting what we needed to get over there, i.e some pants for Miss K and friends, and some sightseeing on what they have, we decided to leave. It was very hot and crowded. We met a couple that sell clothing and they were extremely nice people that I could not be bothered to bargain. They gave us candies after we paid and wished us a happy new year. Some of the sellers were not as friendly as majority of how Thai people are known for, but they were still quite hospitable.

Homemade Ciabatta

Ciabatta is one of my favorite things to make and to eat. It's a pity that we barely have enough people to eat them at home, but I will continue making whenever I feel like making them.

Nara Dinner, Bangkok

In less than a month after visiting Bangkok, we made it back again with an extra person in the group and we went straight ahead  to Nara after dropping everything we had in the hotel. Miss K suggested Prawn Curry above. A good one indeed, it was delicious.

We had Pad Thai, of course. Pork and prawn spring rolls too. We had them before and we liked them.

We also had a fish dish, I could not remember the name of the dish, but it was good as well. Finally, dessert was sticky rice with mango. Happy tummies.
